Free Residential Deck Inspections
The Montgomery County Department of Permitting Services (DPS) is providing free residential deck inspections in May as part of Building Safety Month. Homeowners should call MC 311 to request a deck inspection and fill out an online service request. The DPS program is limited to 300 appointments. Read the news release for details.
County Executive's FY26 Recommended Operating Budget
Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich released his recommended Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26) Operating Budget of $7.7 billion on March 15. Now that the Maryland General Assembly has ended, we have sent over to the County Council amendments to my recommended budget that reflect both new revenues and new costs that have been shifted to the County. The amendments and the recommended budget first submitted reflect a commitment to sustaining core services, investing in public education, affordable housing, economic development and public safety while ensuring financial stability amid economic and political uncertainties at the federal and state levels.

Community Conversations
Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich will hold six Community Conversations, one with each of the County’s five regional Citizen Advisory Boards, throughout March, April and May, to discuss long-term priorities and how he will address the Fiscal Year 2027 Capital Improvements Program (CIP) budget. All meetings are open to the public and encourage community participation.

Building Safety - Game On!
Throughout the month of May, the Department of Permitting Services will participate in the 45th annual Building Safety Month, a worldwide campaign presented by the International Code Council (its members and partners) to promote building safety. This year’s campaign theme, “Game On,” encourages people to get involved in all aspects of building safety and raise awareness of the importance of building safety. This campaign reinforces the need for the adoption of modern, regularly updated building codes and helps individuals, families, and businesses understand what it takes to create safe and sustainable structures.
