County Convenes Dialogue with Faith Communities To Discuss New Approaches to Combat Poverty

An anti-poverty initiative of Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett and the County’s Office of Community Partnerships will be presented at a community dialogue, “Faithfulness Together: Responding Faithfully to the Needs of Women and Children in Montgomery County,” on Sunday, November 22, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Greenridge Baptist Church, 21925 Frederick Rd., Clarksburg.

Faith-based organizations will convene to find ways to leverage resources by seeking new collaborative ways to enhance the safety net for women and children who are among the most vulnerable residents in the current economic crisis. Leaders of multiple faiths will discuss better ways of addressing the needs of people who are suffering in the current economic downturn.

The County Executive is bringing these sectors together to create a more powerful and effective voice in maintaining healthy and sustainable lives for Montgomery County residents. The session will be led by Leggett and the social justice advocate and faith leader Rev. Lula G. Williams, director of Religious Affairs for the Children’s Defense Fund. There will also be a panel discussion between women led by IMPACT Silver Spring Executive Director Frankie Blackburn.
