MD 355 South is an urban corridor planned for a high level of development that will support all-day travel. It is characterized by shorter trips (than in the MD 355 North corridor) representing a wide variety of travel purposes (shopping and recreation, in addition to commuting).
The corridor has several planned or existing activity centers, including
National Institutes of Health/Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, and the
Bethesda central business district.
It is also characterized by very heavy congestion and high transit ridership potential.
