Medical Assistance Waiver for Older Adults
A program to enable older adults to remain in a community setting even though their age or disability might warrant placement in a long-term care facility (nursing home). MAW allows services that are typically covered by Medicaid in a long term care facility to be provided to eligible persons in their own homes or in assisted living facilities. Services provided may include personal care, respite care, home delivered meals, assisted living services, family or consumer training, personal emergency response systems, dietitian/nutritionist services, assistive devices, environmental adaptations and assessments and behavior consultation services. Case management is provided by local Area Agency on Aging (AAA).
