Instructions on HIPAA Training for External Business Partners

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy Rule went into effect in April 2003. The Privacy Rule impacts how the Department of Health and Human Services uses and protects client information. Understanding these regulations protects both you and your clients.

HIPAA training materials are available below. In order to complete this training, please do the following:

  1. Review the HIPAA Overview Presentation, the Safeguarding Client Information document, and the Notice of Privacy Practices.
  2. Print out the HIPAA Test and Training Acknowledgement form.
  3. Complete the test and Training Acknowledgement form.  
  4. Give your test and signed Training Acknowledgement form to your supervisor.
  5. Your supervisor will correct your test and give you a copy of the answer sheet.
  6. Use the answer sheet to review your test. Talk with your supervisor if you have any questions.
  7. Check this site periodically for new informational material. Periodic HIPAA updates and additional training will be available in the future.
