The heart of the Citizen Corps Council is in the community. Citizen Corps members are, at the most basic level, good neighbors. They are vigilant, friendly, and active in their community. From checking on elderly neighbors after a storm to helping children prepare for a major event, the Citizen Corps Council is an essential part of Montgomery County's emergency preparedness efforts.
Our goal is to have all citizens participate in making Montgomery County safer, stronger, and better prepared for preventing and handling threats of terrorism, crime, public health emergencies, and disasters of all kinds.
The Citizen Corps was introduced as part of the USA Freedom Corps to address the need for volunteer efforts in areas of crime, natural disasters, and terrorism. Citizen Corps Councils coordinate volunteer initiatives at the state and local levels.
