Leggett Urges County Council to Pass Code Enforcement Legislation; Executive Aims to Protect Quality of Life and Public Safety

Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett today urged members of the County Council to enact the remaining three code enforcement measures that he proposed last spring. Leggett transmitted four measures that were introduced on May 5 that recommended changes to existing law to aggressively tackle a broad range of code enforcement issues that will improve neighborhood quality of life. Park Play Days at Cabin John Ice

No school? No problem! Bring your 6-13 year-olds to Cabin John Ice Rink for a Park Play Day! On many of the days Montgomery County Public Schools are off, Park Play Days are on! Your kids will enjoy a day full of fun, including a tennis lesson (weather permitting), ice skating lesson, arts & crafts, and fun team games and sports. Tennis and ice skating lessons are given by professional instructors; activities may vary depending on the group's size and interests. Fee for all activities: $40. Extended care is available before and after on most days for an additional fee. Registration is accepted online at www.ParkPass.org or in person at the Cabin John Ice Rink when the Play Days are scheduled. The following are available days/times:

Ride On's monthly pass is proposed to rise in cost by $5

The Montgomery County Council will hold a public meeting about a proposal to raise the cost of Ride On’s monthly pass by $5, from $25 to $30, beginning January 1, 2010. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 1 starting 1:30 p.m. in the 3rd Floor Hearing Room of the Council Office Building, 100 Maryland Avenue, Rockville. NOTE: If there are a large number of speakers, the hearing may be extended to the evening, starting at 7:30 p.m.

The monthly pass provides unlimited rides. Even with the proposed increase, regular Ride On customers will still receive a substantial savings compared to paying the regular daily fare. The increase is one of many actions proposed by the County Executive to help offset the County’s nearly $370 million budget shortfall for fiscal year 2010.

Individuals and representatives of organizations who would like to speak at the public hearing should call 240-777-7803 on or before 5 p.m. Tuesday, November 24 and provide their name, address, telephone number, and organization affiliation, if any.

New Traffic Pattern on Montrose Parkway and Montrose Road

The Montrose Parkway West underpass will soon open beneath Rockville Pike. Montrose Road traffic will no longer be able to cross the Pike.

On or about November 20th, the State Highway Administration (MSHA) will significantly shift traffic patterns at the new interchange at Rockville Pike and Montrose Road.

Here’s what you need to know:

1) Those traveling to Randolph Road from the west, such as from I-270, will need to use Montrose Parkway, which begins near Tilden Lane, angling to the right off of Montrose Road..

2) MCDOT will be opening the last segment of Montrose Parkway between East Jefferson and Old Georgetown Road. Eastbound Parkway traffic will have direct access past East Jefferson, past Old Georgetown Road, and onto the new underpass beneath Rockville Pike. Traffic will then merge onto Randolph Road on the other side of the Pike.

3) Local traffic driving eastbound on Montrose Road will be able to turn left or right on East Jefferson Street, left or right on Rockville Pike, but not cross the Pike to Randolph.

4) Traffic going north on the Pike must use a new ramp to turn right onto Randolph Road.

A WIDER CIRCLE

The mission of A Wider Circle is simple: to help individuals and families lift themselves out of poverty. Each day A Wider Circle provides basic need items to families transitioning out of shelters or simply living without life’s necessities. We also go into low-income schools and shelters to lead educational workshops on topics ranging from healthy self-esteem and stress management to resume writing and financial planning.
