  1. Business or Individual: Charles Atwell (Innovative Business Interiors)

    Award Type: Outstanding Achievement, Individual

    Reason for being recognized: Mr. Charles Atwell has embraced recycling with open arms. His employees gather mixed paper and commingled materials generated within the office and deliver the recyclables directly to a recycling collection facility. Mr. Atwell wants to continue to improve their recycling efforts and has participated in a study project to cooperatively contract for recycling collection services.

  2. Business or Individual: Bob Donlan, Hagner Management

    Award Type: Outstanding Achievement, Individual

    Reason for being recognized: Mr. Bob Donlan of Hagner Management has taken an active approach in ensuring that his tenants are in compliance with the County’s recycling regulation. He visits his properties frequently to make sure his tenants are recycling and he aims to reduce contamination in recycling containers.

  3. Business or Individual: Carla Langone, Fitzgerald Auto Mall - Gaithersburg

    Award Type: Outstanding Achievement, Individual

    Reason for being recognized: Ms. Carla Langone is the “motor” of the recycling program at Lakeforest Automall. She has taken it upon herself to ensure that everyone recycles at her facility, not just employees, but customers as well. While customers are in the waiting room, they will find educational materials and recycling bins available as a result of Carla’s dedication.

  4. Business or Individual: Edward Lyerly, Riccso <>Award Type: Outstanding Achievement, Individual <>Reason for being recognized: Mr. Lyerly is the voice behind the recycling program at Riccso. Mr. Lylerly has created his own recycling signs and has labeled all of the recycling areas. He constantly reminds employees about recycling. <>Contact: Edward Lyerly, 240-314-3647

  5. Business or Individual: Benny Moore, Loiederman Associates, Inc.

    Award Type: Outstanding Achievement, Individual

    Reason for being recognized: Mr. Benny Moore of Loiederman Associates was nominated by a co-worker. After receiving this nomination, County staff visited and met with Mr. Moore and decided that he is indeed an excellent recycler. Mr. Moore has set up recycling containers in every room and has made sure that there is proper signage posted for everyone to be aware of their recycling program. His personality encourages staff to recycle and he is always looking for new opportunities in waste reduction. He indeed has earned a “green” reputation.

  6. Business or Individual: Emmanuel Ohene-Akonnor, Sallaria’s Textiles

    Award Type: Outstanding Achievement, Individual

    Reason for being recognized: Mr. Ohene-Akonnor of Sallaria’s Textiles immediately set up a recycling program upon becoming a new business in the White Oak Shopping Center in early 2003. He and his wife have made recycling a priority at their business as they recycle all of their mixed paper generated at their fabric store.

  7. Business or Individual: Raul Pinto, Kessler Adventist Rehabilitation Hospital

    Award Type: Outstanding Achievement, Individual

    Reason for being recognized: In addition to revamping their recycling efforts at Kessler Adventist Rehabilitation Hospital, Mr. Raul Pinto has been involved along every step of the way to ensure that recycling is taken seriously at the facility. Mr. Pinto has worked closely with cleaning staff at the rehabilitation hospital to make sure that all recyclable material is captured for recycling.

  8. Business or Individual: Ziva Rubin, SEIU Local 500

    Award Type: Outstanding Achievement, Individual

    Reason for being recognized: Sometimes it takes a single person to make recycling work at a business. At SEIU Local 500, this person is Ms. Ziva Rubin. Ms. Rubin is a superb recycler and is always prompt about providing recycling information to new employees and share recycling information with current staff to make sure everyone is informed about their recycling program.

  9. Business or Individual: Yannick Tessema, Parkland M.S. Student

    Award Type: Outstanding Achievement, Individual

    Reason for being recognized: Recycling is important to this eighth grade student at Parkland Middle School. Yannick Tessema makes signs, posters and labels so that everyone, staff and students alike, know how to recycle at the school. On their recycling collection day, Yannick says the recycling announcements over the loudspeaker. Because of his efforts, recycling works at Parkland Middle School.

  10. Business or Individual: Jane Thorne, Children’s Center of Damascus

    Award Type: Outstanding Achievement, Individual

    Reason for being recognized: Teaching children at an early age is important. Ms. Jane Thorne teaches and practices the three “R’s”: recycling, reuse and waste reduction to the students at Children’s Center of Damascus and her efforts are paying off. By the time her students enter kindergarten, they are already spreading the word about recycling to their friends and families.

  11. Business or Individual: Stephanie Warlick, Colorworks Promotions

    Award Type: Outstanding Achievement, Individual

    Reason for being recognized: Ms. Stephanie Warlick has taken recycling upon herself at her organization. Ms. Warlick has taken the lead and has set up a recycling program for her business as well as for two other neighboring businesses.

  12. Business or Individual: Thomas Wortman, Montrose West Limited Partnership

    Award Type: Outstanding Achievement, Individual

    Reason for being recognized: Mr. Thomas Wortman is the person who makes sure recycling works for the tenants of 1201 Seven Locks Road. Mr. Wortman actively communicates recycling information to the tenants to make sure that everyone in the building knows how to properly recycle and takes pride in all of his work.
