SORRT: 2005 Non-Residential Excellence in Recycling Award

Awarded to businesses and organizations that recycled at least 50% of their waste generated in 2004

  1. Business or Individual: American Postal Workers Union Health Plan

    The American Postal Workers Union Health Plan continues to excel in their recycling efforts. Their 2004 recycling rate was 74 percent, and has been above 70 percent for the past four years.

  2. Business or Individual: American Speech-Language-Hearing Association

    The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association continues to excel in their recycling efforts. Their 2004 recycling rate was 60 percent.

  3. Business or Individual: Bethesda Country Club

    Recycling 65 percent of their waste in 2004, Bethesda Country Club continues to show that they care for the environment.

  4. Business or Individual: Bethesda Shade & Awning Shop, Inc.

    Bethesda Shade and Awning Shop, Inc. has proven their commitment to recycling as they recycled 56 percent of their waste in 2004.

  5. Business or Individual: Blanton Studios

    In 2004, Blanton Studios recycled 64 percent of their waste.

  6. Business or Individual: Calvert Group Ltd.

    Calvert Group, Ltd. consistently strives for excellence in recycling. For the past several years, Calvert Group has exceeded the County’s 50 percent recycling goal, and they recycled 69 percent of their waste in 2004.

  7. Business or Individual: Capital Select Properties

    As the property owner of 7871 Beechcraft Avenue, Capital Select Properties ensures that their tenants recycle in accordance with the County's recycling regulations. In 2004, the recycling rate at this location was 86 percent.

  8. Business or Individual: Capitol Cable & Technology, Inc.

    Recycling 56 percent of their waste in 2004, Capitol Cable and Technology, Inc. has shown that a small business can achieve the County's recycling goal.

  9. Business or Individual: Columbia Country Club

    Columbia Country Club had a 68 percent recycling rate in 2004. This is an increase of 68 percent in just four years.

  10. Business or Individual: Congregation Har Shalom

    Congregation Har Shalom has exceeded the County’s 50 percent recycling goal over the past three years and recycled 62 percent of their waste in 2004.

  11. Business or Individual: EU Services

    In 2004, EU Services recycled an astonishing 93 percent of their waste. Since 2001, EU Services has annually recycled 84 percent or more of their total waste generation.

  12. Business or Individual: Heyman Mailing Service

    Heyman Mailing Service recycled 84 percent of their waste in 2004, up from the 83 percent they recycled in 2003.

  13. Business or Individual: Key Distribution

    After recently starting their recycling efforts, Key Distribution exceeded the County’s recycling goal by recycling 80 percent of their waste in 2004.

  14. Business or Individual: Marriott International, Inc.

    Marriott International, Inc. has become a leader in recycling in Montgomery County. In 2004, Marriott recycled 53 percent of their waste, an increase of 83 percent from 2003.

  15. Business or Individual: Montgomery United Methodist Church

    After recycling 43 percent of their waste in 2003, Montgomery United Methodist Church improved their recycling program, and as a result, their recycling rate increased to 55 percent in 2004.

  16. Business or Individual: NASD

    The recycling program at NASD continues to excel. By recycling 54 percent of their waste in 2004, NASD has achieved the County's 50 percent recycling goal for the past three years.

  17. Business or Individual: National Institute of Standards and Technology

    The National Institute of Standards and Technology continues to be a recycling leader in the County. In 2004, NIST recycled over 70 percent of their total waste.

  18. Business or Individual: Northrop Grumman Denro Systems

    Northrop Grumman Denro Systems increased their recycling rate 48 percent in just one year, to 61 percent in 2004.

  19. Business or Individual: Opus East Management, LLC

    As the property manager for 2099 Gaither Road in Rockville, Opus East Management, Inc. implemented a successful recycling program for their tenants who recycled more than 80 percent during the past two years.

  20. Business or Individual: Outta The Way Cafe

    Outta The Way Café recycled 68 percent of their waste in 2004, achieving the County’s recycling goal for the last two years.

  21. Business or Individual: Pinnacle Printing, Inc.

    Recycling more than 83 percent in 2004, Pinnacle Printing, Inc. has achieved the County's 50 percent recycling goal for the past three years.

  22. Business or Individual: Post Newsweek Media

    Post Newsweek Media has consistently achieved an impressive recycling rate for the past several years. In 2004, Post Newsweek recycled 90 percent of their waste, up from 89 percent in 2003.

  23. Business or Individual: Printing Images, Inc.

    For the second year in a row, Printing Images, Inc. has exceeded the County's 50 percent recycling goal and recycled 62 percent in 2004, up from 50 percent in 2003.

  24. Business or Individual: Scuderi Auto Body, Inc.

    Scuderi Auto Body, Inc. is an example of a business that consistently exceeds the County's recycling goals and maintains one of the business community's highest recycling rates. In 2004, they recycled 80 percent of their waste.

  25. Business or Individual: Shapiro & Duncan, Inc.

    Shapiro and Duncan, Inc. recycled 50 percent of their waste in 2004, an increase of 14 percent from 2002.

  26. Business or Individual: St. John the Baptist Church

    Recycling just 15 percent of their waste in 2002, St. John the Baptist Church took another look at their recycling program and made efforts to improve their program. As a result of their hard work and dedication, the Church recycled almost 80 percent of their waste in 2004.

  27. Business or Individual: The Bureau of National Affairs, Inc.

    The Bureau of National Affairs, Inc. is dedicated to exceeding the County’s recycling goal. Since 2001, they have increased their recycling rate 18 percent to an outstanding 96 percent in 2004, the highest reported recycling rate in Montgomery County.

  28. Business or Individual: The Chevy Chase Land Company

    As the property management company for 7316 Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda, The Chevy Chase Land Company has set a standard for all property management companies across the County. In 2004, their property recycled 57 percent of their waste stream.

  29. Business or Individual: The Jefferson School

    Committed to recycling as much material as possible, the Jefferson School exceeded the County’s recycling goal in 2004 by recycling 69 percent of their waste, up from 45 percent just one year ago.

  30. Business or Individual: The Manor Montessori School

    For the past three years, the Manor Montessori School in Potomac has proven their excellence in recycling by recycling more than 65 percent of their waste annually. In 2004, they recycled 76 percent of their waste, their highest recycling rate to date.

  31. Business or Individual: The Woods Academy

    The Woods Academy witnessed an amazing turnaround in their recycling efforts. Recycling just 2 percent of their waste in 2003, the school focused efforts on improving their recycling program and as a result, recycled 56 percent in 2004.

  32. Business or Individual: U.S. Military HIV Research Program

    Recycling 56 percent of their waste in 2004, the US Military HIV Research Program exceeded the County's 50 percent recycling goal for the second straight year.

  33. Business or Individual: U.S. Pharmacopeia Convention, Inc.

    The US Pharmacopeia Convention, Inc. revamped their recycling efforts in late 2003 and as a result, recycled more than 70 percent of their waste in 2004, an increase of 63 percent from 2003.

  34. Business or Individual: Washington Christian Academy

    For the third straight year, the Washington Christian Academy excelled in their recycling efforts and recycled almost 68 percent of their waste in 2004.

  35. Business or Individual: Washington Waldorf School

    The Washington Waldorf School in Bethesda achieved the County’s recycling goal by having a 55 percent recycling rate in 2004, up from 47 percent in 2003.

  36. Business or Individual: Willard Packaging Co., Inc.

    Another example of a dedicated business, the Willard Packaging Company, Inc. recycled 94 percent of their waste in 2004, up from 92 percent just last year and 88 percent in 2002.
