2006 SORRT Outstanding Achievement in Recycling Award -- Individuals

Awarded to businesses or individuals for outstanding efforts in their recycling, waste reduction, or buying recycled programs

  1. Ms. Trang Do (Lockheed Martin Integrated Systems & Solutions)

    Ms. Trang Do has taken recycling to a new level at Lockheed Martin Integrated Systems and Solutions in Gaithersburg.  She invited County staff to meet with several department directors to review the County’s recycling requirements.  Ms. Do has enhanced the recycling program by promoting the use of email, buying recycled products, reusing of materials, and developing a newsletter to keep employees aware of the recycling program.  Through her dedication, the recycling rate increased from 39 percent in 2004 to almost 61 percent in 2005.

  2. Mr. Joe Fitzgibbons (Red Coats Cleaning Service)

    Mr. Joe Fitzgibbons is dedicated to recycling and helps businesses he serves to excel in their recycling efforts as well.  Mr. Fitzgibbons makes his staff aware of recycling issues during general training and will refer businesses that need help with their recycling program to the County’s SORRT Program.

  3. Ms. Anna Jamerson (Starbucks Coffee Company)

    Ms. Anna Jamerson is a strong recycling advocate.  She requires all of her employees to be trained in the recycling requirements of her store.  She will go through the trash and will pick out recyclables that were thrown away and will track down the non-recycler.  She has worked closely with County staff and because of her efforts, all of the Starbucks stores in Montgomery County will be modeling their recycling program after her store as they implement comprehensive recycling programs.

  4. Mr. Rob Powers (ABC Imaging)

    Mr. Rob Powers, Regional Manager of ABC Imaging, has been very supportive of the County’s recycling efforts.  He has implemented recycling at all his store locations and ensures that they are complying with County requirements.  In addition to the required materials, Mr. Powers set up recycling programs for wooden pallets and toner cartridges.

  5. Ms. Marcella Reynolds (Polinger Shannon & Luchs; Friendship Properties, LP

    As the property manager for The Chevy Chase Building, Ms. Marcella Reynolds is committed to making sure that each of their tenants are in compliance with the County’s recycling regulation.  Over the past two years, she has provided training and education to all of the tenants and janitorial services staff and has worked tirelessly to ensure all recycling containers are labeled and all tenants have the educational materials that they need.

  6. Ms. Emily Beard Wittmann (The Chevy Chase Land Company)

    As the property manager for 8401 Connecticut Avenue in Chevy Chase, Ms. Emily Beard Wittmann has shown her commitment to recycling by ensuring that each tenant in the building knows about their recycling program and about the County’s recycling requirements by hosting tenant education meetings and sending out routine communications.
