TRRAC: Buying Recycled Products and Materials

The universal recycling symbol contains three "chasing arrows." Each of these arrows represents a process in the "recycling loop." One of the arrows represents recycling-separating recyclable materials from the trash and putting them into the appropriate recycling containers for collection. Another arrow represents the manufacturing process. This is when the materials that you separate for recycling are made into new products. And finally, the last arrow represents buying recycled. This is when you, the consumer, purchase products that are made with recycled materials.

If we buy products made with recycled materials, then we create a demand for the materials that we recycle in Montgomery County. So in order to keep recycling working, we must buy recycled — and it's easy to do.

buy recycled symbolTo buy products made with recycled materials look for this symbol. When you see this symbol on a package, then you know that product was made with recycled materials.

You can find products made with recycled materials in your local grocery store, hardware store and office supply store. Aluminum and bi-metal cans, glass bottles and jars and some plastic containers such as laundry soap containers are made with recycled materials. In addition, you can buy other products such as paper, pencils, carpeting, clothing and much more that are made with recycled materials. Just read the label.
