The best way to reduce waste is not to create it in the first place. If waste is prevented, there is no need or cost for the collection, processing and disposal.

Tips for Residents:

• Buy products made with recycled content.
• Donate usable clothing, furniture, and other goods to a local charity.
• Rent, share or borrow items not used frequently.
• Buy concentrates or items in bulk.
• Buy durable and reusable products. Try to stay away from disposable items.
• Buy food and other items with as little as packaging as possible.
• When shopping, bring reusable bags.
• Choose products that are packaged in materials that can be recycled in Montgomery County — check the what to recycle page.

Tips for Property Managers:

• Grasscycle or leave grass clippings on the lawn when it is mowed.
• Compost yard trimmings such as leaves, brush and other trimmings.
• Buy cleaning and other products in bulk. Look for non-toxic alternatives.
• Reuse as much as possible when renovating units.
• Find sources for well-maintained, but used, items to use in renovations.

Why Recycle?

It's the law in Montgomery County. Recycling contributes to a cleaner and healthier environment, conserves energy, saves precious natural resources and reduces the amount of solid waste sent to disposal facilities.

Recycle 50%

This is Montgomery County's goal. In order to meet this ambitious goal, we must work together - all residents, businesses and government throughout the County.

More than 30% of the County's households live in multi-family dwellings. We can only achieve this goal if properties like yours help-- by reducing waste, recycling and buying recycled.
