Ride On Regular Fare to Increase to $1.35 on March 2, 2008; SmarTrip® Fare remains the Same
Regular Ride On bus fares in Montgomery County will rise 10 cents per ride—if paid by cash or tokens—from $1.25 to $1.35 beginning March 2, 2008. A regular Ride On fare paid with a SmarTrip card will remain at $1.25, the same as a regular Metrobus fare paid with SmarTrip. The increase is to keep the Ride On cash fare consistent with the Metrobus cash fare, which Metrobus increased January 6, 2008, by 10 cents per ride to $1.35.A projected $400 million shortfall in Fiscal Year 2009 forced the County to make difficult budget decisions in order to close the projected deficit. One way to do this is to increase the regular Ride On cash bus fare by 10 cents per ride.
In raising Ride On fares to match Metrobus fares, Montgomery County eliminates possibly confusing situations in which riders would have to remember more than one basic fare.
Customers may purchase SmarTrip® at commuter stores, from vending machines at most Montgomery County Metro stations, or online here: SmarTrip® For more information about SmarTrip® Guide
