Overcrowded at Your Local Pool?
Don't be dismayed. Try another County pool where you can cool off.
It’s already been a hot, humid summer, which has been great news for MCRD outdoor pools. Since opening Memorial Day Weekend, four of the seven County pools have filled to capacity, which hasn’t always been great news for those arriving late.
We’ve had to turn away some people at Long Branch, MLK, Bethesda and Wheaton/Glenmont pools when capacity reached the limits. But not all is lostyou have options.
If you go to a pool that is full, try the County pools at Upper County, Western County and Germantown. Each has been under capacity thus far. While you will have to make a drive from your neighborhood, at least you and your kids can get into the water more quickly by using your MCRD swimming passes.
“We understand residents want to stay close to home and their neighborhood pools,” said Mark Winans, manager of Affiliated Services for MCRD. “But we’ve experienced extremely hot weather each weekend since opening the pools and it seems everyone is thinking the same thing: get to the pool! It’s important residents know they can use their pool passes at any of the County pools.”
Each County pool has a different capacity. Our largest outdoor pool, MLK in Silver Spring, will serve 1,100 participants; our smallest, Long Branch in Tacoma Park, holds 400. So if the weather is hot and you have plans for a day at the pool, call ahead to your local pool and see if there’s capacity. If not, call one of the other County pools for availability.
