Seniors enjoying themselves About the Program
Welcome to the friendliest senior program in the County.  Adults 55 years and over who wish to be involved and stimulated will find the Long Branch Senior Center an excellent resource for social opportunities, health and wellness programs and lifelong learning.  Whether you are looking for friendship, exercise classes or day trips, you'll find that the Long Branch Senior Center offers excellent activity choices to satisfy a wide range of interests.  Take a look at all of our activities in the current newsletter and calendar and join us!  Newcomers receive a warm greeting and a personal introduction to the center.

Long Branch Senior Center is fully accessible and open to Seniors, age 55 and over, Monday through Friday, 10:00am-2:00pm. Located on the sunny and spacious second floor of the Long Branch Community Center, Senior participants have access to the weight and exercise room, arts and crafts room, game room and gymnasium in additions to all the scheduled activities for Seniors.  A monthly newsletter keeps participants informed of all the events, programs and activities available to them.

General Information
Established in 1994, the Long Branch Senior Center is one of four senior centers sponsored by Montgomery County Department of Recreation. It is the only 5 day a week Senior program housed in a community center.

Limited door-to-door bus transportation is available within our geographic region. For drivers there is ample parking available free of charge. The center is served by the County's Ride On and Metro buses as well.

Staff will be happy to give you a tour of the center and programs, and introduce you to some of the friendly folks who participate in our programs.

Directions
From Silver Spring or the Beltway: Take University Blvd, West and turn right on Piney Branch Road. Just after the first light (approximately one and a half blocks), turn right immediately into the driveway for Long Branch Community Center.  The Long Branch Community Center will be straight in front of you at the end of the parking lot. Parking is abundant and free of charge.

Spanish speaking Seniors will find a lively program of activities in Spanish, as well as classes and tutors to help them learn English.  A monthly newsletter in Spanish keeps Spanish speaking participants informed of all the activities and programs.

Vietnamese Seniors meet Tuesdays from 10:00am - 2:00pm.  Please call 301-429-9707 for more information.  Cambodian Seniors meet at Long Branch on Sunday afternoons and Fridays, 9:30am - 11:00am for T'ai Chi.  Please call 410-825-6448 to confirm dates.

Nutrition Lunch Program
A nutritious lunch is served at the center Monday through Friday at 1:00pm. Reservations may be made in person or by calling two days in advance. The full cost of the meal is $6.74. For persons aged 60 or older and spouses of any age, a voluntary contribution is requested. Contributions are used to purchase meals, so people are encouraged to contribute to the fullest extent possible. Guests under age 60 must pay the full cost. To cancel your reservation, you must call before 1:00pm the day before (301-431-5708).

Consult the current newsletter for an up-to-date schedule of all the activities including: exercise classes, entertainment, art classes, volunteer opportunities, special events, health education, discussion groups, trips and more.

Health and Counseling Services
Blood pressure screening, mobile medical services, use of onsite fitness center, counseling services, etc. are offered at the center.  Please consult the newsletter for more information and the current schedule.

Seniors with Disabilities are encouraged to participate in senior programs.

Senior Information & Assistance Client assistance workers from Montgomery County Aging and Disability services may be reached by calling the Hotline 240-777-1245.

Available Transportation
Limited door-to-door transportation is available Monday through Friday. Call the senior center director to see if you live within the designated boundaries. Ongoing reservations should then be made in person or by calling by 11:00am one day in advance. If last minute changes are necessary, you must call before 11:00am the day before to cancel the reservation (301-431-5708).

Inclement Weather Policy
When Montgomery County Public Schools are closed due to snow, ice or severe weather, all classes and activities will be cancelled. There will be no lunch served and no transportation. If County Schools have a delayed opening, all activities scheduled to begin at 10:00am or later may be held as usual but lunch will not be served. When County schools close early, the center may close early, and activities are cancelled. If in doubt, call the center before leaving home (301-431-5708), or call the Senior Programs Office (240-777-4925).

ADA Information
Montgomery County Government is committed to complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and seniors with disabilities are encouraged to participate in senior programs. If you need auxiliary aids, program assistance or services in order to participate, notification must be received no later than two weeks prior to the start of the activity. Call 240-777-4925 or TTY 240-777-6974.

Financial Assistance
Financial Assistance is available for low-income residents. For information, call the Long Branch Senior Center at 301-431-5708 or Senior Programs 240-777-4925.
