Want to spend the summer outside enjoying the weather while you help kids with disabilities? Like variety? Montgomery County Department of Recreation has several summer positions available. Work a flexible schedule 20-35 hours per week.
Mainstream Companion Manager
Supervise children with disabilities mainstreamed into general summer programs and their companions. Job requires a car and the ability to visit multiple sites in a day. Skills needed: Knowledge of disabilities, strong behavior management, camp experience, excellent communication skills, and problem-solving skills.
Mainstream Companion Provide one-on-one assistance to a child with a disability to facilitate full participation in summer program. Assignments will vary every two weeks. Skills needed: Ability to work directly with children with disabilities, strong behavior management, camp experience, flexibility and problem solving skills. Camp Directors, Counselors for children and teens with disabilities
Therapeutic Recreation is looking for directors and counselors for camps. Camps: Apollo-ages 6-12 with autism and/or PDD; Little and Big Pines-ages 5-8, 9-12 with ADHD and learning disabilities; Chesapeake-ages 13-21 with developmental disabilities; Personal Pursuits-ages 13-21 with developmental disabilities; Project Discovery-ages 5-18 with physical disabilities. Crafts, games, music, swimming, and trips into the community. Knowledge of behavior management, camp or classroom experience, staff and volunteer supervision, program planning, and a drivers license are required.
