MD 355 Ride On Plus Transit Project

In June 2015, the County submitted an FY2015 TIGER grant application to the USDOT for Ride On Plus service on Maryland Route 355 between the Lakeforest Transit Center and the Grosvenor Metrorail Station.  The County requested $17 million for this $21.25 million project that would purchase 14 all-electric buses for an 11-mile/14-station system; add 17 additional Bikeshare stations; and provide Transit Signal Priority at 31 intersections.  Awards will be announced in Fall 2015.

Application Narrative

Ride On Celebrates 40th Anniversary

At a special ceremony at the Executive Office Building Courtyard, County Executive Isiah Leggett proclaimed May 11, 2015 "Ride On Day".  US Senator Ben Cardin gave a rousing speech in support of public transportation and Ride On's four decades of service. Well wishers included Maryland State Delegates Charles Barkley and Jim Gilchrist, County Councilpersons George Leventhal (President), Sidney Katz, and Hans Riemer.  Honors were given to Trailblazers from the 1970s who are still with Ride On:  Karla Rivera, Bill Oliver, Kim Carey, Steve Wilkinson, Bill Gbolokai,  and Susanne Brunhart-Wiggins (an original rider) and Ed Daniel (first Chief of Ride On).

See Something Say Something

You’ll Be Seeing Some Ride On Buses That Look Like This

These buses are regular Ride On buses, but have been wrapped to include messages that are part of the “ See Something, Say Something ” transit security campaign. Three (3) buses will operate on various Ride On routes around Montgomery County.  Ride On has joined forces with other transit agencies to bring you information on reporting suspicious behavior around transit stations or vehicles.  Funding for the wraps comes from a regional grant from the US Department of Homeland Security. So riders, “keep your good eye open” when you are waiting for your bus by checking the destination sign for your usual route number and destination, even though  the bus may not look like your regular Ride On bus.  Regular fares apply.  We are now accepting full wrap advertising.

Route 28 VanGo FREE Circulator

Route 28 VanGo FREE Circulator has a new route to better serve the downtown Silver Spring community and the new library.  The circulator departs every 12 to 15 minutes depending on traffic.
