Montgomery County, MD - - Montgomery County Fire and Rescue investigators have determined that this afternoon’s fire at the Cider Mill Apartments in the 18200 block of Lost Knife Circle in Montgomery Village, in which a four-year-boy died, was accidental. Over 80 firefighters battled the blaze that broke out just after 4:00 p.m. this afternoon and displaced residents from a dozen apartments in the complex. The American Red Cross and the apartment’s property management office are assisting residents displaced by the fire.

The origin and cause of the fire remains under investigation and preliminary damage estimates are $750,000 to the structure and $300,000 to contents.  The victim’s identity and cause of death determined by the State’s Medical Examiner will be released along with any updates on the investigation when available.
