Fire Chief to Recognize “Everyday Hero

Thursday, August 28, 2014

11:30 a.m.

Travilah Fire Station #32

9615 Darnestown Road, Rockville, Maryland

NW Corner of Darnestown Road and Shady Grove Road

Montgomery County, MD  - - A man who collapsed while jogging will meet his “rescuers” in a special ceremony at Travilah Fire Station #32 on Thursday, August 28th. Fire Chief Steve Lohr will recognize a Rockville resident who rushed to the jogger’s side when he collapsed at a local playground and provided life-saving CPR until medics arrived on the scene.

The quick-thinking resident did not know for weeks whether the man, who was running with a young child in a baby jogger at the time he collapsed, had survived. It wasn’t until officials from the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service were contacted by the victim’s family in hopes that they could locate and thank the rescuers who saved his life. They will meet for the first time on Thursday --- coincidentally, the jogger’s 32nd birthday. The 911 dispatcher and members from the EMS crew that responded and ultimately transported the critically ill patient to the hospital will also be on hand.
