Web Accessibility Policy Statement - top

At the core of Montgomery County’s commitment to making its programs, services, activities, and facilities accessible to all members of the public, including qualified individuals with disabilities, is Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The County’s Internet web sites play a vital role in providing such access and conforming to Title II ensures County departments comply with this policy.

Accessibility Tips for Using the Web Site - top

Instructions for using the County’s Text Alternative Web Site are provided below:

  • After opening a County content web page, such as the County home page (www.montgomerycountymd.gov), select the Text Version link provided at the top left hand corner of the page. This will be the first link read by a screen reader on the page.
  • The Text Version link will trigger a function to convert the table based layout or template web page into a text based web page template.
  • Once the content page converts to the text template, the text template navigation functionality built into the web site should enable the user to navigate to other text templates without leaving the text version mode unless otherwise selected.
  • The user should also automatically skip the repetitive web site portal navigation menus and go right to the beginning of the content page when navigating through the text site.
  • Text-only alternative pages are typically unavailable for County web applications, typically database driven web pages.

Helpful web browser information that provides instructions on how to magnify a browser screen, enlarge text or change the text or background colors, or navigate using a keyboard in order to properly view web pages are provided below:

There are numerous Portable Document Format (PDF) documents, forms and brochures on the Montgomery County Web site to help users download and print easily. Many of the PDFs on this site were created in Adobe Acrobat. You can download a free copy of the Adobe Reader.
