About the Commission for Women
This year will mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Montgomery County Commission for Women (CFW). The Commission was established under law in 1972. The mandate of the Commission is to advise the County Executive, the County Council, the public, and agencies of the county, state and federal governments on issues concerning women in Montgomery County. (Montgomery County Code Sec. 27 – 29)
On June 7, 2022 we celebrate 50 years of the incredible work, accomplishments, and triumphs of the Montgomery County Commission for Women. The Commission strives to improve the lives of women in the county by identifying inequities in our legislation and taking proactive measures to create remedies and solutions with our elected officials and community groups. Since 1972, we honor and celebrate over 200 commissioners who have served the women of our county.
We invite you to celebrate with us! All year long, we will be highlighting the history of the commission and our various initiatives. We also have two upcoming events to honor our 50th Anniversary. We invite the public to attend our 50th Anniversary Picnic on June 5, 2022. Details about the events are below.

Celebration Details
The Commission will be hosting TWO events, one open to the community and the other by invitation only.
50th Anniversary Family & Friends Picnic
- When: Sunday, June 5, 2022
- Time: 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
- Where: Wheaton Regional Park, 2000 Shorefield Rd., Silver Spring, MD 20902
- Cost: Free
- Who can attend: Open to the public; all ages welcome!
Please be sure to join us for this fun-filled community day as we celebrate 50 years of the Commission! There will be food trucks, music, and games for the entire family. The event is free, but RSVPs are appreciated. (Food trucks will be charging for food). Please RSVP at Eventbrite.
Community vendors will also be there sharing information about their services.
50th Anniversary Proclamation & Time Capsule Burial

- Who can attend: INVITATION ONLY for Current and former Commissioners and their families, as well as elected officials and other guests.
