Things to know before filing a noise complaint
Interior Noise
Montgomery County’s noise control law does not contain any specific sound limits applicable to internal noise. The sound limits established in the law are for external noise measured outside at the property line. Learn more about noise waivers and suppression plans before filing a noise complaint.
Outside Noise
Montgomery County’s noise control law does not cover noise from:
- Aircraft and railroads.
- Motor vehicles on public roadways.
- Emergency operations by police, fire or public utilities.
- Agricultural field machinery.
- Non amplified sound created between 7 am and 11 pm by sports, amusements, or entertainment events or other public gatherings operating according to the requirements of the appropriate permit or licensing authority. This includes athletic contests, carnivals, fairgrounds, parades, band and orchestra activities, and public celebrations.
