Renters Tax Credit
Renters who pay high monthly rent relative to their total income may qualify for a tax credit (a check of up to $1,000) paid by the state of Maryland. Application deadline is October 1, 2022.
Qualified renters also automatically receive a 50% matching Montgomery County tax credit to be mailed by the end of March 2023.
- The application process is brief. Renters can apply online or submit a paper application, with their 2021 tax form and Social Security number.
- In 2021, qualified renters who applied received, on average, $466 Renters Tax credit from the state of Maryland and $252 from Montgomery County.
You might qualify if your household income last year was below a certain amount and you are either age 60+; or you are under age 60 with children under age 18; or you are 100% disabled.
