Daniel A. Koroma
Daniel Koroma is a long-time resident of White Oak, an underserved community in the East County. He started advocating for voting rights as an American citizen by becoming a voter registrar and hosting community voter registration events. Mr. Koroma was the lead community advocate who testified at both the County and State Board of Elections and the Maryland General Assembly in Annapolis in favor of a new early voting site in White Oak. He helped persuade lawmakers to pass the law that led to the establishment of the new early voting site in White Oak and hosted multiple voter engagement activities to bring awareness to the new White Oak early voting site. During the 2022 election cycle, Mr. Koroma worked with the Montgomery County Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and knocked on hundreds of doors in the White Oak community to encourage residents to register and to vote. Mr. Koroma also is a former member of the Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee.
On a professional level, Mr. Koroma works for the Montgomery County Government and has served the community for more than 15 years. In 2009, he became the first African appointed by then-County Executive Ike Leggett as Community Liaison for the African and Caribbean communities. He currently serves as a Business Liaison helping businesses with support services before and throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. During the pandemic, Mr. Koroma hosted multiple virtual information sessions on access to grants, working capital, and other ways for nonprofits and small businesses, especially minority, female, veteran, and disabled owned businesses, to access resources to survive the pandemic.
Mr. Koroma earned a master’s degree from the University of Maryland, James A. Clark School of Engineering and graduated from the Harvard Kennedy School Executive Leadership program.
