Standby (STBY) Judges are Election Judges who completed training but have not been provided a service assignment in a polling place. If assigned as a Standby Judge, you are expected to report for service to any polling place vacancy throughout Montgomery County when notified by your Recruiter. You are required to sign the Standby Election Judge Agreement and return it to your Recruiter. The Standby position cannot be requested and is made by a Recruiter based on the operational needs.
Note: As a Standby Judge if you are contacted to serve and you become unreachable, the Standby stipend will not be paid. If you are contacted to serve and you refuse to serve when and where assigned, the Standby stipend will not be paid.

Responsibilities:
- Willingness to travel to any polling place within Montgomery County
- Serve as a replacement for an Election Judge who is no longer available
- Complete all required training
- Sign and return a Standby Judge Agreement for the election (required for payment)
- Remain on standby throughout Election Day.

Note: Election Workers who served as Election Judges (poll workers) in the 2024 election cycle will receive a returning service bonus for Election Judge service during the 2026 election cycle. Election Judges will receive a $100.00 bonus for each full day served on Election Day or During Early Voting or a $50.00 bonus for each part day served on Election Day or During Early Voting
