Voting Operations Election Workers

Voting Operations Election Workers – A and B (VOP-A/B) are part-time positions.  VOP-A positions serve during the morning hours and VOP-B serve in the afternoon and evening. Voting Operations workers  are trained to carry out the duties associated with each functional area in the polling precinct.  The number of VOPs assigned to each precinct varies based on anticipated turnout.


Responsibilities:

  • Work as a team to set up the polling precinct the evening prior to the election
  • Check in voters at the electronic pollbook
  • Issue ballots to voters
  • Escort voters to the voting area and, if asked, give instructions on the voting process, using the scanner or ballot marking device
  • Work as a team to close the polling precinct and prepare the materials and documentation to be returned to the Board of Elections
  • Rotate to other duties and assist as directed by the Chief Judges

Requirements:
  • Complete all required training
  • Able to speak clearly, listen well and to be friendly and welcoming
  • Able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time
  • Able to follow procedures; written and verbal instructions
  • Attend the mandatory pre-election meeting set-up meeting at the polling precinct the evening prior to election day and work as a team to set up the polling precinct.  Standard meeting time is 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, but may be adjusted if necessary

Election Day Payment : $125 per shift | Training Payment: $50.00

* Election Workers who previously served as an Election Judge will receive a $50 bonus for each half day served on Election Day and/or Early Voting Day during the 2024 elections.

Election Day Hours :

VOP-A
  • Election Day Eve - 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm (set-up meeting)
  • Election Day - 6:00 am – 3:00 pm

VOP-B
  • Election Day Eve - 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm (set-up meeting)
  • Election Day - 2:00 pm – closing (approximately 11:00 pm)
