Voting Operations Judge (VOP) and Voting Operations Judge-Bilingual in Spanish (SPN)assist voters at voting stations in the polling place. VOP/SPN’s may rotate to different voting stations throughout the day. Duties may include checking in previously registered voters by asking for identifying information and entering the data into electronic poll books to confirm registration; printing documents for voters to verify and sign; issuing paper ballots to voters; explaining how to mark a ballot; providing instruction and assistance at the voting equipment; directing voters to appropriate voting stations; and managing lines inside and outside of the polling place. One VOP bilingual in Spanish (designated as SPN) is required per polling place. Election Judges bilingual in other languages (for example Chinese, French, Korean, or Vietnamese) may also be assigned, based on the specific needs of the polling place

Responsibilities:

  • Work as a team to set up the polling place the evening prior to Election Day
  • Check in voters on the electronic pollbook
  • Correctly determine when voters need to vote a provisional ballot/li>
  • Issue the correct ballot styles to voters and explain how to mark the ballots
  • Guide voters to the voting area, instruct voters on use of election equipment and provide assistance if requested
  • Make sure no campaign or electioneering materials were left in the polling room
  • Work as a team to close the polling place and prepare the materials and documentation to be returned to the Board of Elections
  • Assist voters and other Election Judges as directed by the Chief Judges

Requirements:
  • Minimum Age 16
  • Complete all required training
  • Attend the mandatory pre-election set-up meeting at the polling place the night prior to Election Day and work as a team to set up the polling place. Standard meeting time is 6:30 pm, but may be adjusted if necessary
  • Able to speak clearly, listen well and to be friendly and welcoming
  • Able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time
  • Able to follow written and verbal instructions
Service Hours and Service Stipend (payment)
  • This is a full-day position.
  • Pre-Election Set-Up Hours: 6:30pm to completion of set-up (approximately 9:30 pm)
  • Election Day Service Hours: 6:00 am – to approximately 11:00 pm
  • Election Day Payment: $320.00 Training Payment: $70.00
  • Note: Election Workers who served as Election Judges (poll workers) in the 2024 election cycle will receive a returning service bonus for Election Judge service during the 2026 election cycle. Election Judges will receive a $100.00 bonus for each full day served on Election Day or during Early Voting or a $50.00 bonus for each part day served on Election Day or during Early Voting.
