MoComCon Contests

2019 Art Contest Information

  • Draw or paint your favorite comic book, television, or movie character, or create your own. Submit your art at the Information Desk at any MCPL branch. Images will be on display throughout the month of January.

Guidelines

  • Draw or paint your favorite character from any fandom, book, television show or movie, or invent your own original character!
  • Open to grades K-5, grades 6-12, and adults.
  • You do not need a library card to enter.
  • Entries must be your own work, no larger than 18”x24”.
  • Entries must be in a 2-dimesional/flat format (paper, canvas board, stretched canvas on frame). No 3-d objects, no electronic formats.
  • Content must be suitable for a family environment (no explicit images, words, or content).
  • Entries will not be accepted in frames or in glass or acrylic holders, or by mail.
  • Limit one entry per person.
  • All art must be submitted with an entry form ( en español), in person, before the deadline of 5:00 pm, Monday, December 31, 2018. Submit your art at the Information Desk at any MCPL branch.

Prizes

  • In January, the first, second, and third prize-winning entries will be on display at the Silver Spring Library. All other entries will be on display at the Germantown Library.
  • Art will be judged on creativity, style, and appeal.
  • Prizes will be awarded to 1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd place winners in child (gr K-5), teen (gr 6-12), and adult (ages 18+) categories.
  • Winners will be notified by email or phone in mid-January. Winners will be formally recognized on MCPL social media and on artwork display at Silver Spring Library.
  • Prizes will be available for pickup at Silver Spring Library on January 19, 2019 during MoComCon. If winners cannot attend MoComCon, prizes will be sent back to the submission branch with artwork and can be picked up between February 15-March 15.
  • In February, your artwork will be returned to the library listed on the entry form and must be picked up between February 15–March 15. We cannot guarantee its availability after that date.

2019 Cosplay Contest Information

Dress up as your favorite character from any fandom, book, television show or movie, or invent your own original character!

Contestants must pre-register on the 3 rd Floor starting at 11 am (limit: 20 entrants per age group).

Contestants will be judged and prizes awarded according to age group (0–12, 13–17, 18+).

All contestants must report to the contest area on the 3rd floor, with their numbered badge, no later than 3:15 pm. Contest begins promptly at 3:30 pm and may run until 4:30 pm.

Guidelines

  • There will be a 1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd prize awarded in each age group.
  • Age groups are 0–12, 13–17, and 18+. A parent or caregiver 18+ must sign the entry form for all contestants 17 & under.
  • Contestant must be present to claim prize or it will be forfeited.
  • All judges' decisions are final.
  • All costumes must be appropriate for an all-ages event.
  • No weapons, including replica and costume pieces, will be allowed inside of the event.
