Event Descriptions

Cosplay Contest (All Ages)

Come in costume as a favorite fictional character and join our contest if you like! Contestant spots are limited so sign up early. Sign up starts at 11:00 am. Forms are available for download on the Cosplay and Art Contests page.

Don Sakers on Writing and Publishing SciFi and Fantasy (ages 13 through adult)

Teens and adults can get tips on writing original science fiction and fantasy and some pointers on publishing from author and book reviewer Don Sakers.

Future Makers (for children accompanied by a parent/caregiver, preteens, and teens)

Learn about thermoforming—a quick version of 3D printing—and make a 3D robot face.

Speedy Escape Room (Ages 14+)

Be quick to work out the Game of Thrones-themed clues before your time is up!

Speedy Escape Room (Ages 8-13)

Be quick to work out the clues in this Harry Potter-themed escape room before your time is up!

Videogaming: (Ages 7 and up )

Enjoy a turn playing Mario Kart for WiiU with other players. Have you ever used an Oculus Rift virtual-reality? Try it out (or show your VR-game skills) by playing the short but active game Beat Saber.

Visionary Comics Comic Publishing 101 (ages 13 through adult)

Learn about the comics-publishing industry from C. Edward Sellner of Visionary Comics, a company involved in publishing comics and teaching aspiring comics creators.

Washington Metropolitan Gamer Symphony Orchestra (All Ages)

A string quartet plays songs from popular videogames, featuring the orchestra’s concertmaster Andrew Nixon.

Attendees must adhere to all MCPL Guidelines Governing the Use of Public Libraries and Guidelines for Behavior.
No weapons, including replica and costume pieces, will be allowed inside of the event.
