NCPW Tip of the Day:

PROTECT YOURSELF AGAINST JUNK MAIL AND ROBOCALLS

What do you do when the stack of unwanted junk mail is piling up on your kitchen table and the unsolicited phone calls from telemarketers seem endless? Recently, the FCC approved changes to its telemarketing rules to strengthen consumer protection rights. As this is a prevalent issue that many consumers are dealing with daily, the FCC has intervened to further regulate telemarketers. Many consumers attempt to ignore these phone calls and trash junk mail every day. If you are simply tired of being bombarded here are some actions you may want to take:

Ask companies you do business with to remove your name from customer lists they rent or sell to others. Be on the lookout for information on how to opt out of marketing lists.

Register your phone number at www.donotcall.gov .

Call 1-888-567-8688, to reduce the number of unsolicited credit and insurance offers you receive.

Register for a small fee at dmachoice.org, to opt out of receiving unsolicited commercial mail from many national companies for five years..
