Search for available titles through our catalog.

Place items on hold via our website or by calling the branch and choose a pickup location. You will need your library card number to place items on hold.

You will receive notification via email, phone, or text when your holds are available for a scheduled pickup.

Schedule your appointment

After you receive notification, please complete this form or call your pickup library to schedule your pickup appointment as soon as possible. After 10 days, the hold will be removed from your account. You will need your library card number to schedule your pickup appointment.

On the day of your appointment staff will check items out to the library card account you provided.

Pick up your holds

Bags with your name and pickup time will be on a table inside the branch vestibule or just outside the front doors, depending on the branch. Only one person may enter the vestibule at a time to maintain social distance. You must wear a mask when picking up your hold.

What libraries are offering MCPL Holds To Go?

All branches except Noyes and Long Branch will offer MCPL Holds To Go.

 

What time can I pick up my items?

You must book an appointment at the branch of your choice either online or via phone. The service is offered each open day from one hour after opening to one hour before closing.

 

Should I make an appointment every time I receive notification that my hold is available?

No. Please make only one appointment. All holds available at the time your order is prepared for pick up will be included.

 

Who may use MCPL Holds To Go?

Anyone who has an active Montgomery County Public Library card. If you do not have a library card, apply for a Digital Library card for free, online on our website!

 

How many items may I place on hold?

You may have up to 100 hold requests on your account until further notice.

 

May I place Marina/OCLC holds during this time?

Answer to be determined.

 

How do I reserve items?

You can reserve items online or over the phone. Requests are limited to 100 items per customer at a time. There is no fee for this service. Once your holds are available, you will be notified by e-mail, text, or phone based on your account preference. You will have 10 days to pick up your holds

 

May I pick up holds for someone else?

Yes. The customer should call or schedule a pick-up appointment online with that account information for whom the materials are on hold for. When scheduling the appointment include the name of the designated person to pick up the holds.

 

I'm not ready to pick up my holds yet but I don’t want to lose my place in the queue. May I still suspend my holds?

We can suspend your holds until you are ready. Provide our staff with the date on which you’d like the suspension to begin and end.

Will I be charged a fee if I don’t pick up my holds?

No. Until further notice, the hold non-pickup fee is temporarily suspended.

 

May I place new holds and pick them up?

Yes. Customers can place holds on materials via phone or online. Depending on your account preference, you will receive an e-mail, text, or voicemail notification stating that your holds are available to be picked up. After you receive verification, call or book an appointment online to pick up your holds at your preferred location.

 

What if I miss my pickup time slot?

Your items will be removed from the table and you will need to sign up for a new time slot or contact the library. If you do not pick up your items within 10 business days, they will be removed from your account.

 

Will I be required to wear a mask when picking up my holds?

Yes. At this time, we are requiring all customers wear masks when picking up holds. Staff will also be wearing appropriate PPE at all times.

 

Are you going to sanitize my holds before I pick them up?

Library materials will not be sanitized, however, all staff members are required to practice social distancing from other staff members while wearing a face mask. All returned items will be placed in a 96 hour quarantine before anyone can check them out again.

 

May I return my library materials now?

You may return your materials 24/7 via the outside book drop. Please allow 3-5 days for library materials to be safely returned and removed from your account.

 

May I donate my books to the library now?

While we appreciate your donations, please do not bring them to the library at this time. The Friends of the Library Montgomery County Rockville Bookstore is accepting donations. Please check their website for more information.

 

How long will this service be available?

This service will be available until further notice.
