Police Officer III Kyle David Olinger

On April 18, 2019, Montgomery County Police Officer Kyle Olinger succumbed to injuries he sustained when he was shot by a suspect in August 2003.
In the early morning hours of August 13, 2003, Officer Kyle Olinger was on routine patrol in downtown Silver Spring when he initiated a traffic stop on a car containing three subjects. During the traffic stop, a passenger shot Officer Olinger in the neck. Officer Olinger became paralyzed.
The suspect was arrested and convicted of attempted murder. Due to his injuries, Officer Olinger retired in 2007, but continued to remain involved with the department.
Prior to serving with the Montgomery County Police Department, Officer Olinger had served with the United States Marines and the Reading Police Department.
