Inclement Weather Information

When Montgomery County Recreation must close or cancel programs due to inclement weather or other circumstances related to participant and staff safety the first notification is made through Montgomery County’s emergency notification system, Alert Montgomery. Alert Montgomery provides accurate, immediate emergency notifications from Montgomery County to your cell, work or home phone, via text, email or voice message.

Real-time emergency updates can also be accessed at:

Given that participants and employees often travel distances and weather conditions may vary considerably across the county, residents are advised to exercise caution and consider personal safety as the first priority.

Fields

Many Montgomery County Recreation leagues and other outdoor programs are played on fields owned and maintained by Montgomery Parks and MCPS. To find out if a Montgomery Parks or MCPS athletic field is open, closed, or experiencing inclement weather delays in real time, use the RainoutLine.com system to:

  • View field status via https://www.montgomeryparks.org/rainoutline/
  • Sign up for customized email or text messages for the leagues you play in and/or field of your choice.
  • Call the Rainout Line at 301-579-5610 to find out the status of fields. Enter the extension for the field of your choice.
  • Download the free iPhone or Android Mobile App (search for Montgomery Parks).

Swimming Lessons

When a lesson is canceled due to inclement weather, a practice pass will be given to each participant at the end of the session. Practice passes can be used for admission to a recreational swim session at any Montgomery County Recreation aquatic center. Practice passes expire six months from the date of  issue and are valid for one adult and one child.

When two or more lessons are canceled due to inclement weather, a pro-rated credit will be issued to the payer’s ActiveMONTGOMERY account at the end of the session. The credit issued will be for the cost of the canceled lesson(s).  The credit can be applied to future aquatics lessons or any other Montgomery County Recreation program.
