Competitive Programs

You’re no beginner, and you’re ready to take on some fierce competition in one of Montgomery County Recreation’s competitive swim programs. Between the Rockville Montgomery Swim Club and the Montgomery County Swim League, we offer a large, diverse selection of competitive teams.

Montgomery County Swim League Youth Teams

swimmerThis summer swim team program, sponsored by Montgomery County Recreation, is part of the Montgomery County Swim League (MCSL). The competitive program is for swimmers 5 - 18 years old. Weekday practices are held in the afternoons (while MCPS is still in session) and in the mornings during the summer (once the MCPS school year has ended) and are dependent on the participant's age.  Swim meets are held on Saturday mornings or Wednesday evenings during the summer and participation is dependent on the participant's skill level.

Swimmers who did not participate on a team last summer will need to attend evaluations before registration can take place.

8 and under swimmers must be able to swim one continuous length (25 meters) of the pool using a coordinated stroke and rhythmic breathing and be able to float on their back.

9-12 Year Old swimmers must be able to swim one legal length (25 meters) of freestyle with good rhythmic breathing and one length (25 meters) of backstroke.

13 and older swimmers must be able to swim two continuous legal lengths (50 meters) of freestyle with good rhythmic breathing and two continuous legal lengths (50 meters) of backstroke.

We do NOT offer Pre-Team.

Materials and other team fees are not included in the registration fee. Parents and swimmers should attend the pre-season parent meeting held at the pool on the Tuesday after Memorial Day, 7 p.m., RAIN or SHINE. Practices begin on the Wednesday after Memorial Day and run weekdays through mid to late July. More details for practice times and exact dates will be available at the pre-season parent meeting.

Final day to register is June 15. Final day to withdraw and request a refund is June 30.

The MCR teams are the Bethesda Barracudas, Germantown Torpedoes, Glenmont Gators, Long Branch Water Wizards, Poolesville Piranhas and the Upper County Dolphins. You can search for our teams through ActiveMontgomery by searching MCSL.

Rockville Montgomery Swim Club

swimmer In the Rockville Montgomery Swim Club (RMSC) , you can participate in year-round team competition in your specified age group. RMSC is affiliated with United States of America Swimming (USAS) through the local swim committee, Potomac Valley Swimming. RMSC offers a rewarding training and competitive experience and is open to swimmers of all ability levels. With a number of practice time options, this club provides flexibility for participants with busy schedules. Swimmers new to the program must attend a tryout. Practice groups are assigned by skill level. Placement into advanced level groups is available by coaches' invitation only.

Masters Swimming

Designed specifically for competitive swimming adults seeking a structured workout with a professional coach. Local or national competition is available for those who wish to compete. Triathletes welcome. Swimmers need to be proficient in most strokes and advanced enough to circle swim a workout, with an eye toward entering US masters swimming competitions. Training is offered at all indoor pools.

Stroke & Turn

Montgomery Stroke and Turn Clinic (MSTC) has served the County's swimming community for over 25 years and is designed for swimmers who want to improve their ability to swim the four competitive strokes, learn correct starts and turn, gain strength, and have fun. Coaches work on teaching proper stroke mechanics and techniques. Swimmers need to be able to swim 25 yards/meters of freestyle without stopping.

A developmental program for kids 13 and under who have an interest in competitive swimming and want to build a foundation of related skills. Swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards/meters without stopping.
