Indoor Walking
Did you know? When Maryland designated walking as the state exercise on Oct. 1, 2008, it became the first state in the nation to name a state exercise.
Walking may not seem as beneficial as other cardiovascular exercises like running, biking or swimming, but there are a lot of health benefits to walking regularly. Walking just 30 minutes a day is recommended for everyone. A brisk walk can help you lead a happier and healthier life. Maintaining your muscle mass and flexibility goes a long way in keeping you healthy and independent. Bone mass loss can lead to bones that break faster and more easily.
5 Benefits of Walking
- Walking strengthens your legs and abdominals, alleviating pressure put on your joints.
- Walking improves circulation, which can help lower your blood pressure.
- Walking increases your metabolism and helps to burn excess calories.
- Walking is a low-impact exercise that promotes joint health.
- Walking engages the hips, abdominals and numerous other muscles that work together to ensure that a person can stay balanced.
