Volunteer Policies & Procedures
Policies
Montgomery County Recreation encourages volunteerism throughout the department and to incorporate volunteers in order to enhance the delivery of programs and services.
We reserve the right to dismiss volunteers for unsatisfactory performance, inappropriate behavior, or because their services are no longer necessary.
Montgomery County Recreation complies with all items as stated in the Montgomery County Administrative Procedure 1-15, Volunteerism.
Procedures
All Recreation volunteers will be screened commensurate with the level of responsibility of their positions. Reference checks and background checks may be performed for all volunteers above the age of 16 years old before accepting volunteers into positions with high levels of responsibility, or which involve working with vulnerable populations such as children, the elderly, or people with disabilities. Background checks and fingerprints are handled through the Recreation Department’s Human Resources Team. Interested applicants should visit the nearest aquatic, recreation or senior center.
Volunteers must complete a Volunteer Registration Form and Confidentiality Form.
In addition Recreation may use their own “in house” form to be used to provide specific intake information about the potential volunteer’s interests, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
All volunteers must be provided with a clear job description, training, on-going supervision, and regular evaluations. In addition, volunteers will be provided with a Recreation Access Card, along with the basic supplies and equipment necessary to perform their assigned job function.
