How to Apply for a RainScapes Rewards Project

Whether you are new to RainScapes or ready to get started with your application, it is helpful to read through our step-by-step application guide.  It will help make the process run smoother and easier.

We are piloting a new virtual inspection / site visit process as of April 6, 2020. Please review the linked sheet for information on how these site visits will be handled.

Application Process

Step 1: Choose a Project and Apply

To all of our RainScapes participants,

We are working to continue the RainScapes program during the COVID-19 outbreak. However, due to the Stay at Home mandate, the RainScapes Program will not be conducting on-site inspections.

At this time, all preliminary inspections will involve using a video call on smart phone or tablet. If you do not have that capacity, please email us at: RainScapes@montgomerycountymd.gov.

Until further notice, all final inspections will only be done virtually. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.

Step 2: Get approval and install your project

  • A RainScapes planner will contact you to schedule an on-site visit

    • Exception: Rain barrels applications do not require a site visit.

  • During the site visit, your planner will help you determine whether the project that you chose is best suited for your property.

  • NOTE: Before a rain garden, conservation landscaping, or green roof can be approved, you must submit a scaled planting plan and plant list for staff review.

  • When your project is accepted (plan approved) for the RainScapes Rewards Rebate Program, you will be emailed a blank copy of the Property Owner Agreement (POA) for your review. Click the link in the email to electronically sign the POA. After the project has been completed, you will be sent a completly signed copy of the POA.

  • Now you may install your project!

Step 3: Finish and Get Your Rebate

  • When your project is complete, contact your RainScapes planner to schedule a final inspection.

  • Submit copies of project receipts (via mail, email or in person during your final inspection).

  • After passing the final inspection, you will receive a rebate check in 4-6 weeks.
