Electrical Permit with Parent Building Permit & Inspection Process
For work requiring a Building Permit, you must enter the valid parent permit number for the project you are applying for in the “Application # of the Parent Permit” field, prior to proceeding to the Apply Online – Worksheet (See instructions in Step 1.) Failure to do so may result in the loss of initial permit payment as well as cost(s) still due for the waiting permit placeholder.
Please email Electrical & Mechanical inquires to:

An electrical permit must be applied for online using DPS ePermits. The applicant must have a valid Masters license issued by the Maryland State Board of Electricians and have set up an Apply Online account by contacting DPS prior to applying to ensure the email address is tied to their Electrical Business License (Accounts do not need to be created by the licensed applicant/user themselves). To begin using ePermits and ePlans, please send a brief email request for a user account to [email protected] if you are properly licensed and have not already done so or you can visit our DPS eServicesfor additional information.
No. Homeowners who meet the required criteria for doing so, may take an examination to obtain a permit for a limited scope of work. They will be assisted by MCDPS Staff to obtain the permit after successfully passing the exam. Please see our Homeowner Electrical Exam process if you are a homeowner doing work on your primary residence and wish to perform the work yourself.
The total fee will be the sum of the processing fee plus the price of the items/work. Please see our fee schedule for additional information about the fees associated with this permit.
Once the applicant completes the online electrical permit application and pays, the permit will automatically be issued. Keep in mind, the parent building permit must be issued and no violations be present on property to complete the application.
