Dumpster Permit & Inspection Process
A dumpster permit is required for the temporary placement of a dumpster within the Montgomery County public right-of-way. This ensures the dumpster will be placed in an acceptable location that does not endanger or interfere with pedestrian or vehicular traffic. The permit requires the placement of warning devices like traffic cones, reflectors, or barricades to alert motorists and pedestrians. The permit will be valid for six months.
- If the proposed location of the dumpster is within a Montgomery County roadway, a permit is required. If the proposed location is a State or municipal roadway, you must obtain a permit from that jurisdiction.
- If the proposed location is on private property a permit is not required.
This permit does not apply to municipality and homeowner association (HOA) rules and regulations. You must contact that municipality or HOA for permission.
At a minimum, a plan showing the proposed location must be provided. In addition, the plan must show placement of warning devices such as traffic cones or barricades needed to alert motorists and pedestrians. In some instances, a traffic control plan may be required for placement on high-volume roadways and within business districts.
Typically, a dumpster permit will be issued within 1-2 weeks from submittal depending on staff workload.
