Respite Care

Provides short-term temporary relief to the primary unpaid full time live-in caregiver who is providing full-time care to frail elderly adults, functionally disabled adults (including those with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias); children with challenging behaviors; children and adults with developmental disabilities; and children with severe medical conditions.

How to Apply

The Department of Health and Human Services contracts with The Arc Montgomery County to coordinate the Respite Care Program.  Call The Arc Montgomery County Respite Coordination program at 301-984-5777 x1204 to request an application or visit The Arc Montgomery County website.  Families are notified when their application is received.  It may take up to 30 business days to process an application.  Once the application is approved, the primary caregiver is invited to participate in an orientation then Respite staff will work with the family to locate the most appropriate provider for the direct services.

All respite applications with required documentation (see checklist on application) must be emailed to Respite@arcmontmd.org or postmarked through US mail to Respite Coordination, The Arc Montgomery County, 7362 Calhoun Place, Rockville, MD 20855.

Eligibility Requirements

Must be the primary full time live-in unpaid caregiver for a frail elderly adult, a child or adult with a functional or developmental disability, a child with challenging behaviors or severe medical needs.

Fees and Payments

Fees are based on a sliding scale depending on family/individual income.
