Montgomery County is committed to making the experience of homelessness rare, brief and non- recurring through a range of strategies including:
- homeless prevention,
- street outreach,
- temporary shelter,
- rental assistance and
- permanent housing with support services.
Through partnership with non-profit organizations, foundations, corporations, consumers, donors and the community, we work toward a common vision of "Housing for All=A Stronger Montgomery"
Our system works to connect people experiencing homelessness with housing as quickly as possible. As we work toward this goal, people experiencing homelessness may access a variety of programs located throughout the County to meet their basic needs such as:
- emergency shelter
The "system" provides approximately 500 beds for single adults and households with children. The Continuum of Care provides:
- Emergency shelter space during winter months (November 1-March 31).
- Emergency shelter space for single adults at two emergency shelters (with additional space as needed).
- Shelter and housing placements for families based on availability and prioritized for those households with the greatest need.
