Internships at the Montgomery County Commission for Women
We believe in mentoring and supporting emerging leaders in Montgomery County. The Commission has several means of doing this, including hosting a robust internship program. Our internship program aims to encourage young people to become more involved in understanding and addressing women’s issues. We welcome high school, college, and graduate students to participate in our internship program. Interns work with our team to achieve our goals and meet the needs of women county-wide.
The CFW seeks responsible, conscientious, and pro-active individuals with a sincere interest in women’s issues, social justice, and civic engagement. Applicants should demonstrate strong writing and organizational skills and should be willing to take the initiative for new assignments. Individuals must be motivated, driven, and have a positive attitude.
Our internships are paid, and we do give our interns the option of receiving credit to count for academic programs at their affiliated institutions. We also provide student service-learning hours for Montgomery County Public School students.
Interns at the CFW work on a variety of projects and tasks which may include:
Legislation and Policy- Researching and monitoring state and local legislation that affects women and families.
- Assisting with outreach to other organizations or groups involved with issues of concern to women and families.
- Collaborating with the Commission for Women’s Policy and Legislative Committee and supporting their activities.
- Assisting with the coordination of public programs and events, including our signature Women’s Legislative Briefing.
- Supporting and contributing to activities of the Commission’s programming committee.
- Assisting with writing and distributing press releases and media advisories.
- Updating and/or creating media lists and obtaining media coverage for Commission events.
- Updating Facebook, X (Twitter) and Instagram pages with recent event information.
- Contributing to website design.
- Conducting research on various issues affecting the status of women in Montgomery County.
- TTying in studies to organize future events that highlight salient issues.
- Answering the phones and assisting constituents.
- Assisting with filing, organizing, or other office duties.
Human Trafficking Prevention Committee
The Montgomery County Commission for Women also supports the Montgomery County Human Trafficking Prevention Committee (HTPC). Interns may have the opportunity to assist the HTPC as well.
How to ApplyInternships are available to students during the fall, spring, and summer terms, but we also host students during other respective college terms/quarters. Admission into the internship program is rolling. Before applying, please e-mail us to ensure space is still available.
Internship HoursInternship programs are hybrid—students will work from home and at the Commission for Women office. Hours vary depending on a person’s schedule. However, we generally require a two or three-day commitment. If it is a full day internship, the hours are from 10:00am-4:00pm. (This may vary on project need.) If it is part time internship, students may work after the school day is done.

- Dates and hours of availability.
- A list of goals you wish to achieve during your internship
- A small writing sample—no more than 2-3 paragraphs
Applicants will also be asked to participate in an in-person interview.
