Limited Master Electrician's License by Examination with the BOEE
Effective July 1, 2021, Montgomery County will no longer issue a Limited Master Electrician License. • Valid Limited Masters Electrical licenses issued by DPS prior to July 1, 2021 will be valid for low voltage work only. DPS will not be renewing Limited Masters Electrical Licenses when they expire.
This applies only to applications recieved on or before June 30,2021.
The applicant must complete the fully complete the Application for Electrical Exam and submit with it original Letters of Verification of Employment on company letterhead, signed by the Master electrician of the company. The Master for the company must include his/her license number, the jurisdiction where the Master’s license was obtained, and must indicate specific dates of employment. Formal course study or training in electrical work completed at a trade school or other institution. Letter(s) can NOT substituted for letter(s) of employment verification.
If the Board of Electrical Examiners (BOEE) determines that the applicant does not qualify for the exam, he/she will be notified in writing. The applicant may arrange to appear at a subsequent meeting of the BOEE to give further information regarding his/her qualifications.
The Journeyman License is valid for two (2) years from the date of issuance and may be renewed upon application to the Department.
Upon passing the exam, the applicant must submit payment for the Limited Master’s License itself along with the following:
A.) A Limited Electrical Business License application, or
B.) A letter on company letterhead from a Montgomery County licensed Limited Electrical Business stating that the Limited Electrical Business intends to employ this person as their Limited Master Electrician, or
C.) A letter, stating that he/she intends the license to be "Inactive" not less than twelve (12) months after the third and succeeding examinations.
