How it Works

This process only applies to applications received on or before June 30,2021

Download and complete the application. You will also need to include the following:

1. Original Letters of verification of employment on company letterhead, signed by the master electrician of the company. The master for the company must include his/her license number and the jurisdiction where license was obtained. Letter(s) of verification must indicate specific dates of employment
2. A photo to generate the new ID card. Options for photo submittals are as follows;
   1.) Email us a front-faced professional looking photo in JPEG format to: [email protected]
   2.) Visit DPS offices and have a photo taken.
3. Payment of application fee. A non-refundable payment must be made at the time of application package submission. This will be done online (you will be notified and given instructions how to pay online once your request has been processed).

How it Works

The application is forwarded to the Board of Electrical Examiners for review. The Board of Electrical Examiners meets the Monday after the first Saturday of the month & the Monday two weeks after that date (barring holidays). If the Board determines that the applicant does not qualify for the exam, he/she will be notified in writing. The applicant may arrange to appear at a subsequent meeting of the Electrical Board to give further information regarding his/her qualifications.

How it Works

If the Board determines that the applicant meets the qualifications, a written notice will be sent to the applicant designating the time and place of the exam. The exam is based on the 2017 National Electrical Code and is given the first Saturday of each month unless that Saturday falls within a holiday weekend (e.g. July 4, Labor Day). The letter also provides important information on items permitted to be brought to the examination. Applicant examination results will be mailed out by the Department within five (5) business days of their testing date.

How it Works

Upon passing the exam, the applicant must submit payment for the Limited Master’s License itself along with the following:
A.) A Limited Electrical Business License application (Link to Electrical Business License Page), or
B.) A letter on company letterhead from a Montgomery County licensed Limited Electrical Business stating that the Limited Electrical Business intends to employ this person as their Limited Master Electrician, or C.) A letter, stating that he/she intends for the Limited Master’s license to be "Inactive", submitted not more than twelve (12) months following the examination date.

Upon approval by the BOEE, the Department of Permitting Services will then issue the new license an identification card the following business day. The applicant will be emailed a PDF scan of the license along with a login, temporary password, and instructions to begin using eServices to apply/issue permits (if applicable). Hardcopies of the license certificates, new ID Card and receipts will be mailed out within 1 business day. The issued identification card must be carried at all times while performing electrical work within Montgomery County, under the jurisdiction of this office.
