Fire Alarm Individual License License Process
An individual responsible for the inspection, maintenance, testing of a fire alarm system or any portion thereof in Montgomery County must obtain a license issued by Montgomery County Department of Permitting Services. Individuals must be associated with an approved Corporate Fire Alarm license and be aware of the Designated Qualified Individual (DQI) and their contact information.
The applicant must submit the completed application along with the required fee, a completed Designated Qualified Individual section, any qualifying documents, and a signed affidavit.
A license may be revoked or suspended for the following:
• Violations of code
• False statements or misrepresentations on your application for a license
• Work performed in an unsafe manner
• Failure to abide by the signed affidavit
• Failure to notify the Fire Marshal’s Office (DPS) of a change of address within 10 business days
Failure to submit the required items will result in the rejection of your application.
All individuals are required to work under a corporate fire alarm license with a valid DQI. The DQI themselves are not required to have individual licenses.
The reason for the disapproval will be noted on the application by the reviewer. The most common reason for disapproval is lack of qualifying documents. The applicant may re-apply at any time.
Please see our fee schedule for information regarding the cost of this license. The license is valid for 2 years from the date of issue.
