Fire Extinguisher Technician License Process
Any individual responsible for the servicing of portable fire extinguishers in Montgomery County must obtain a license issued by Montgomery County Department of Permitting Services. Servicing includes charging, filling, maintaining, recharging, repairing, and hydrostatic testing.
What are the requirements to apply for a this license?
Beginning March 1, 2019 all portable fire extinguisher technicians must be certified in accordance with NFPA 10, 2013 edition.
Can a license be revoked or suspended?
A license may be revoked or suspended for the following:
- Violations of code.
- False statements or misrepresentations on your application for a license
- Work performed in an unsafe manner.
- Failure to abide by the signed affidavit.
- Failure to notify the Fire Marshal’s Office (DPS) of a change of address within 10 business days.
What if I am only doing inspections?
Personnel only performing inspections and not service do not need to be licensed.
