Major Equestrian Events Permit Type of Process Label
An Equestrian Event is defined as a competition, exhibition, or other display of equestrian skills. Major equestrian events require a permit be issued to the owner/operator prior to the event. Equestrian events are regulated by site requirements, hours of operation, and number of participants and spectators.
A permit is required for a major equestrian event when a competition, exhibition, or other display of equestrian skills involves between 151 and 300 participants and spectators per day. At least 75 acres are required to conduct a major equestrian event and the site must have direct access to a roadway with at least an arterial classification (a road primarily used by through traffic and usually on a continuous route or highway).
An equestrian event may operate Sunday through Thursday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday and from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
A maximum of 3 per year - lasting up to 3 consecutive days each per property.
An equestrian facility is defined as any structure or land that is used primarily for the care, breeding, boarding, rental, riding, or training of horses or the teaching of equestrian skills. Equestrian facilities include events such as competitions, exhibitions, or other displays of equestrian skills.
