Sign Variance Permit Review, Process & Decision
A sign variance is required when a proposed sign does not conform to the requirements of the zoning ordinance pertaining to the size, height or its location. DPS processes the sign variance application and the Sign Review Board provides an approval decision.
The Sign Review Board generally meets monthly. Visit the Sign Review Board webpage for information about upcoming meetings, minutes and more.
The sign review board considers sign characteristics (size, shape, etc.), compatibility with surrounding property, proximity to other signs and technical recommendations from the Planning Board and its’ staff.
The Sign Review Board is prohibited from approving a sign variance for any sign prohibited under Section 6.7.4 of the zoning code - Prohibited signs.
