24 Hour Crisis Center

The Crisis Center provides free crisis services 24 hours a day/ 365 days a year. Services are provided by telephone (240-777-4000) or in person at 1301 Piccard Drive in Rockville (no appointment needed). Mobile Crisis Team (MCT) provides emergency crisis evaluations for individuals who are experiencing a mental health crisis. Full crisis assessments and treatment referrals are provided for all crises, both psychiatric and situational. In addition, the program has four crisis beds as an alternative to hospitalization for those who are uninsured or are insured within the public mental health system.

Fees and Payments

There is no charge for crisis services for walk ins, calls or mobile crisis team outreach.  Residential crisis services are billed to Medical Assistance.

FAQ's

1.  I do not speak English; are you still able to assist me?  

The Crisis Center has staff who speak Spanish, Farsi, and Mandarin; if these staff are not available to assist you we can access a language line which provides telephone interpretation for all languages.In addition, the Crisis Center has video remote access for urgent sign language needs.

2.  I have a family member with a mental illness, they are refusing treatment, and will not go to see their doctor or come to the Crisis Center.  I am worried about his/her safety and/or our safety, what do I do?

The Crisis Center has a Mobile Crisis Team which can respond anywhere in Montgomery County.  The team responds with the police to urgent situations and will evaluate your loved one, make recommendations and referrals.  To ensure everyone’s safety, if clinically indicated, the team can help facilitate an involuntary evaluation at a hospital emergency room when necessary.

3.  Does the Crisis Center provide services to children?

The Crisis Center provides crisis services to county residents of all ages. 

4.  I am a homeless adult; will I get shelter today?  

 During the winter months (November 1 – April 1) there is same day emergency shelter for homeless adults available. During the warmer months we provide an assessment and a referral, however there is rarely a same day shelter bed available during these months.

5.  Will I see a psychiatrist on the same day I come in for services?

You will  be evaluated by a licensed mental health professional; you may receive an  appointment with the Crisis Center psychiatrist if you are eligible for the public mental health system and depending on the urgency of your situation.

6.  Does the Crisis Center provide marriage counseling?  

The Crisis Center will assess for domestic violence and make appropriate referrals.  The Crisis Center does not provide marriage counseling but can assist you with referral information.

7.  How quickly will I be seen and how long does the crisis assessment take?

Typically the wait is less than 30 minutes, though during our busiest times (11 a.m. to 8 p.m.)the wait may be longer.  The assessment time varies, depending on the complexity of your situation.

8.  I was previously seen at the Crisis Center, how do I get a copy of my records?

In order to obtain a copy of your records you will need to come in person to complete a request for us to release the record to you.  Once that is completed we will process your request and have your record ready for you within 30 days.  Please let us know if you need your record more urgently and we will do our best to accommodate your need.
