Resource Fair Breakout Room Organizations 

Youth Ambassadors & BTheOne   

BTheOne.org is a group of organizations and government agencies that works to prevent suicide, mental health concerns, and substance misuse among teenagers. Youth ambassadors are the students who bring BTheOne into their schools by spreading the message on social media, leading mindfulness and self-soothing kit activities, serving as student speakers and peer advocates, etc.  

Cornerstone Montgomery   

An independent nonprofit that can serve up to 3,000 adults and transition aged youth, ages 12+. Specializes in comprehensive, community- and evidence-based mental health and co-occurring mental health/ substance use disorder treatments and interventions. 

MC Council of PTAs 

The MC Council of Parent Teacher Associations’ Health & Wellness Team focuses on issues including mental health and substance use & prevention. Engages in advocacy at the MCPS, county, and state levels. Holds Mental Health and Wellness Forums with free mental heath training, wellness checks, mindfulness classes, mental health first aid, and the community opioid prevention education (COPE) trailer. Topics include depression, anxiety, vaping, reducing stigma, and connecting students/families/teachers to resources. 

MoCo Child & Adolescent Mental Health  

Provides therapy services to children, adolescents, and their families. We treat a range of mental health disorders including trauma, and can serve residents of Montgomery County who have Medicaid, Care for Kids, or who are uninsured. 

MoCo Crisis Center 

 

The Crisis Center provides free telephone and walk-in crisis intervention services for Montgomery County residents of all ages. Services are available 24/7, 365 days a year, including: Crisis intervention and assessment, mental health consultation and stabilization; Mental health information and referral services; Mobile Crisis and Outreach Team; and Community presentations about additional services. 

SMYAL (LGBTQ Youth) 

SMYAL supports and empowers lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) youth. Offers 1-on-1 counseling, groups, and case management for ages 6-24. Hotline in English and Spanish is open 11 am-7 pm, Monday through Friday for free food access, mental health services, sexual health and wellness resources, supplies, and other vital services during COVID-19: 202-709-5876 

Identity 

Identity as supported the successful growth and development of tens of thousands of young people living in high poverty areas of Montgomery County since 1998. They offer wraparound services with case management, mental health, & substance use counseling; academic support and workforce development; parent engagement facilitation; trauma-informed social-emotional learning; gang prevention; and advocacy. 

MoCo Street Outreach Gang Prevention 

Prevents, neutralizes, and controls hostile behavior in high risk youth and youth gangs by developing positive relationships between youth/community stakeholders and outreach workers. Outreach workers use positive youth development programs and leisure activities as interventions to redirect antisocial and aggressive behaviors. 

Asian American Health Initiative 

The mission of AAHI is to improve the health and wellness of Asian American communities in Montgomery. AAHI strives to educate the community to understand the health risks and issues that disproportionally affect Asian Americans, raise awareness of stigma associated with Mental Health in the Asian American population, and ensure that local health infrastructure is linguistically and culturally responsive within MCDHHS and throughout the County. Resource highlights include a culturally responsive mental health provider directory, yoolkits, cultural competency training, educational workshops on various mental health topics, and more. The educational materials are available in English, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Hindi, and other Asian languages.    

 

Behavioral Health

 

Primary Care Coalition: Montgomery Cares Behavioral Health Program: Website. The Montgomery Cares Behavioral Health Program (MCBHP) embeds behavioral health teams into safety-net primary care clinics to partner with primary care providers. The staff members include bilingual case managers- licensed mental health professionals or RNs with mental health training, a community resource coordinator, and consulting psychiatrists. The teams identify, diagnose, an treat patients with common behavioral health diagnoses including depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorders. Behavioral health staff members also screen for and work with people experiencing substance abuse, domestic violence, or severe mental illness: treatment for these may not occur in the primary care setting, bu the MCBHP staff connect patients to services.

Addiction Treatment Centers

 

Montgomery County Recovery Services: Website. Provides comprehensive outpatient addiction treatment services through medication, individualized treatment planning, health and addiction education classes, and individual and group counseling. The Individualized Treatment Plan addresses each client’s medical, psychiatric, vocational, and educational needs. Referrals to self-help groups and other community resources are valuable tools that we employ in the therapeutic process.​

 
Maryland Wellness and Recovery: Website. Offers Substance Use Disorder (SUD) services including: Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), Outpatient (OP), and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), with drug screening at the office. 

 

 Suburban Hospital Addiction Treatment Center: WebsiteSuburban Hospital's Addiction Treatment Center offers evaluation and diagnosis, individualized outpatient treatment plans for adults and adolescents, and a free concerned persons program for those who suspect loved ones may be struggling with addiction.
 

Second Chance Addiction Care: Website. A boutique outpatient addiction program in Potomac, Maryland that offers high quality and highly individualized treatment services to the community. Features a specialized program for executives and DUI recipients.
 

Pyramid Walden: Website. Provides intensive outpatient, Recovery Programming Groups, and 3.5, 3.7 Residential, & 3.7 Medically Managed Withdrawal Management detox services for men and women. We offer transportation for inpatient admissions and discharges and accept Medicaid. Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) patients are accepted if they began MAT prior to entering inpatient. MAT and Med Management Outpatient services are available in our outpatient treatment programs.

 

Youth Resources

 

The Recovery and Academic Program: Website. ​Montgomery County Public Schools has partnered with Sheppard Pratt Health System to connect youth with academic and substance use recovery support services. The program pairs academic coursework from MCPS with recovery support services provided at The Landing, Family Services' recovery clubhouse. RAP helps students continue working toward graduation in a safe and supportive environment during the day while learning the necessary skills needed to maintain sobriety in the afternoons and evenings.  It is free of charge to Montgomery County youth and accepts referrals from MCPS, juvenile drug court, and other non-profit agencies.

BTheOne Suicide Prevention: Website This website contains information on how to help friends and loved ones ​with may be contemplating suicide or using substances excessively. The website is designed with teens in mind, but it can be used by anyone seeking information on how to help. 

The Child and Adolescent Assessment Services (CASS): Website Program located at the Crisis Center conducts Mental Health and Substance Abuse Assessments and makes recommendations for Montgomery County Youth.  Appointments are required and can be scheduled by contacting the main crisis line (240) 777-4000.  Information can also be requested by email [email protected]

 

Grief & Peer Support Groups

 

Free Grief Counseling for Loved Ones after Fatal Overdose: Contact Kaili van Waveren: 240-566-3246 or [email protected], Montgomery & Frederick County Fatal Overdose Grief Support is a free program to provide grief support and resources to families and friends after an overdose death, regardless of how long ago their death occured. Request help. The program offers:

-        Up to 3 sessions of private grief counseling

-        Biweekly grief support groups

-        Information about ongoing support and resources

-        Referrals to treatment, recovery, and/or harm reduction resources

-        Referrals to long-term peer-based, local grief support

 

Surviving Our Ultimate Loss (S.O.U.L.): Website. [email protected]. S.O.U.L. is a volunteer peer-support group created by and for mothers and families who have lost children to overdose. The purpose of S.O.U.L. is to provide a space where mothers (and families) who have lost a child to drug overdose can find non-judgmental support to help cope with the loss, share who our child was with the world, explore how we can advocate in our communitiies, and encourage each other to find meaningful ways to re-invest in life. Membership is exclusive to families who have lost a son or daughter to overdose.
