The Abuse Intervention Program (AIP) is a structured hybrid program which spans between 24-30 weeks. It is tailored for individuals who have exhibit a pattern of abusive behaviors to include coercive and controlling behaviors in intimate partner relationships. Participants benefit from a comprehensive approach that aims to increase accountability, foster empathy, and promote healthier relationship dynamics, ultimately striving to break the cycle of violence and facilitate lasting behavior change. Please note this is NOT anger management.
The Abuse Intervention Program (AIP) utilizes a specialized curriculum along with cognitive-behavioral therapy techniques that introduce and foster positive ways of dealing with conflict in relationships and acknowledge accountability. Groups meet weekly and participants can only receive one credit per week and must complete the program consecutively following an enrollment agreement that outlines the rules and behavior change requirements for the duration of their enrollment in the program.
Montgomery County residents (male or female) who are involved in intimate partner violence or non-Montgomery County residents whose incident occurred in Montgomery County.
Participants must have a referral from their respective Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services agents, case workers, Montgomery County courts, and/or attorneys available to schedule an intake.
All referrals must include participant ID and court documents including Statement of Charges (SOC), court documents, and probation contracts. Other necessary documents may be requested.
Intake/Registration fee: $50
Class fee: $20
Individual Counseling: $40
No participant will be turned away due to inability to pay. If needed, a sliding scale is available based on income.
